Patrick Marine Jr. Obituary

Patrick Joseph Marine Jr. of Pahrump, Nevada, passed away Tuesday, October 06, 2020 at the Nathan Adelson Hospice facility in Las Vegas, Nevada.  He was 69. It was not Covid-19.

Joe (as he was known from the age of 6 when he announced to the world his name was Joe - because he got tired of answering when his mom called his dad) was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

He was born November 20, 1951 to Wilfreda Lukens Hathaway and Patrick Joseph Marine in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.  He spent his childhood in Hatboro, Pennsylvania, where he graduated from Hatboro High School.  He attended the University of Florida for one year.

His draft number was "00009" - Joe chose to enlist in the U.S. Air Force on January 20, 1971, and worked as a Weapons Control Systems Technician on the F-105 for 8 years.  Then he worked as an Applied Sciences Technician for 15 years.  Joe retired on August 31, 1994.

On June 24, 1978 he married Karen Kay Sherrill at the George AFB Chapel, Victorville, California.  Together, they lived in North Highlands, California while working at McClellan AFB for a few years before the Air Force sent them to Yakota AFB, Japan for 4 years.  They returned to McClellan AFB where they eventually retired. In January 2015 they moved to their home in Pahrump, Nevada.

Joe had many passions in life.  He loved life and was always a child at heart.  He loved his family.  He Loved sports - all kinds- and taught both of his children and years later his two oldest grandsons to bowl.  Joe finally showed Karen what he could do working with wood by building his children and two oldest grandsons wooden stools like the one her father made for her.  Now the oldest grandson, Richard, and Karen will have to make the stools for the two youngest grandsons using Grandpa's example.  There has been at least one computer in the house starting in 1982, and both children learned from him.  Joe had a passion for history which he shared with his oldest grandson.

Besides his wife, Karen, he is survived by one daughter, Kristina Sherrill Marine Benson of Pahrump, Nevada, one son, Patrick Joseph Marine III of Citrus Heights, California, one sister, Marcia Marine of California, and four grandsons, Richard, Scott, Patrick, and Tiberius.

Visitation will be from 1:00 to 1:30 p.m. at Pahrump Family Mortuary, 5441 S. Vicki Ann Road, Pahrump, Nevada, 89048. A service will be held at 1:30 p.m. graveside at Grandview Cemetery, 5441 S. Vicki Ann Road, Pahrump, Nevada, 89048.
